We will be staying in the outskirts of Iringa

Hello Houghton!! I am shortly going to be heading off for an exciting 3-month adventure in Tanzania! I am going with the semester study-abroad “Houghton in Tanzania” program, and cannot wait to begin. Also, after studying and learning in Houghton during the semester, I have the blessed opportunity to spend about a week and a half in Fimpulu, Zambia with a missionary couple from my church who are just starting a wonderful ministry there. I can’t wait to see and experience all that God has in store for me in Africa!
Firstly, I leave for Tanzania on Wednesday, January 19, and will be coming back to Houghton on …

Habari za Leo! How is your day?

Greetings again from Tanzania! It’s been awhile since the last blog post for various reasons. For one, we have been away from campus for several weeks now on Safari, homestay, vacation and various other excursions. The other reason would be that we did make it in to town the other day, but it was so nice (you have no idea) NOT to spend my entire town trip waiting for pictures and words to load on here! It was the best town trip in the world!!

Anyways, this week we returned to Masumbo and have been spending time catching up on sleep from our 12 hour ride, getting back into classes, starting up the …

Another update from the other side of the world!! The past 2 weeks have been full of excitement and more “experiential learning” s we call it. Sidenote…two of the most incredible things here are the sunsets and the stars. Above is a typical sunset and as for the stars, they are incredible! We can see the Milky Way and Orion so clearly and the stars are not drowned out by street lights and buildings. It’s great!

Ok, so now around Masumbo to “spice” things up a bit usually my roommate and I (Stef) create interesting activities, such as…Dr. A Day! Here are some pictures!

Hey everyone!! 1 month in Africa and the adventure has really just begun. The time here is flying by fast because each week is full of new and exciting adventures! It’s really been an awesome journey so far and a blessing to be here!

This past week we spent 4 nights with the Maasai Tribe.

They are still a very traditional tribe, with traditional dress, customs, language and more. It was so neat to have some time with them and the exposure to such a new environment and it’s people.

The Maasai are pastoralists. They …

Greetings again from Tanzania!!
Unfortunately, last trip into town, the computers were not cooperating and a blog post was not an option, even after an hour of trying. Today we are in town for a little bit longer than normal, so I am hoping to actually get out and walk around a bit.  Iringa has about half a million people and has one of the best East African markets!  It’s very safe and we really enjoy trips into town.

The past week now our group has spent at Masumbo, so today I wanted to talk about what life is like here!!  Our campus is located about 25 minutes down the road and with a busy schedule, we don’t make it to town very often (so, …
