The last weekend trip we took was on the Great Ocean Road. TK, our Houghton professor here, told us that it was about the journey not the destination! So we stopped many times along the road to enjoy beautiful ocean views. We got to see the famous Twelve Apostles…although there are really only eleven because one fell! This trip was just one more time that we were all amazed at God’s creation! Simply amazing.

I couldn’t have asked for a better way to close out my college days. The semester in Australia was an amazing experience, and I have enjoyed sharing it with you. If you …

One of the great things about studying abroad is that it’s a small group…there were only 21 of us here on the HDU program this year. We had many big games of mafia and other random fun things throughout the semester :: along with trips into the city and all of the group trips on weekends. Many great friendships were formed, heaps of fun was had, people were challenged and grew, and many incredible memories were made!

Earlier in the semester :: the end of September to be exact :: we had Spring break…weird I know. So we had about two and a half weeks to travel. Some different places people went were: Sydney, Brisbane, Cairns, and Adelaide. We were able to see many beautiful things around Australia, as well as enjoy some warm weather. (Another crazy concept…going north to get warm!)

Living in Melbourne has been an amazing experience! It is a beautiful city focused on people and community. Throughout the city you will find green areas where people sit and eat, chat with friends, or read. Most restaurants and cafe’s have seating outside, laneways are filled with cafe’s and shops, and there are markets and activities weekly! We have loved getting to know the city and the people in it :: Australian culture is very friendly and hospitable!

This Thanksgiving was a little bit different for all of us Houghton Down Under students… we shared our Thanksgiving tradition with a bunch of Aussie’s. We made the meal – turkey, stuffing, potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, greenbean casserole, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, apple pie, and chocolate pie – and invited all of the Kingsley staff and their families. Some were given pilgrim hats (including the Kingsley principal, as pictured), while others were given native american feathers to wear on their heads, and there were trivia games and songs.
