Well I’m back! These last few weeks have been very crazy, with tons of events and activities keeping us Houghton-ites on our toes! One of the requirements of being an RA is to hold social events once a month. These events are for your residents so they can spend time away from homework getting to know one another!
Well, for our last event, the RAs in the flats and townhouses held a two hour bowling session at a local bowling alley! We covered the cost of bowling, shoes and pizza, which meant that anyone who came, could bowl essentially for free! We had an incredible turnout with almost 100 people in attendance, bowling and eating for two …

Hello everyone! Well its been about another week since we last talked and not much has changed academically. I have begun conducting research for my paper for the Principles of Sociology class. I have chosen the topic of Religion and Iconography in Film, with respect to how our culture reacts and treats it. I can’t believe that our country is so concerned with removing religion from everyday life, and yet it loves to talk about religion and USE those images and messages in so many popular films. Movies like The Matrix and Magnolia use religious undertones everywhere, and yet people are ALWAYS complaining that Christians are intolerant and don’t want their children to say “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance. It has been quite an experience looking …
Thanksgiving then back to Houghton for the final stretch!
After returning from nationals in Daytona Beach for soccer, I had a couple days to recover and then head out for Thanksgiving! It was good to get back and see everyone and return to classes also. Our season for soccer ended, but it was a season no one expected so for me it ended in a smile.
Every Thanksgiving I go to my friend Erin’s house. We spend the entire break with her family (parents, younger bro, older bro, and his wife). It’s a blast! Being the third year this time, as we entered the house first stop for me was the fridge! The entire break then consisted of staying …
From one thing to the next. Now that the cross country season is over, I can now put more focus into memorizing my lines for the Shakespeare Players production of “Merchant of Venice” showing November 29, 30, and December 1 in the Tysinger Auditorium. It’s gonna be fantastic (yes, I know. a shameless plug, but you should still come!)
But before I elaborate on my theatrical exploits, let me give you a brief summary of the end of cross country. Our women’s team ran a great race at the Regional meet in Ohio coming in third over all. Three members of our team will be going to Nationals in Wisconsin (?) individually – Dan Ballard, Kaity Fadden, and Rachel Rhodes. YAY! Great end to a good …
yeah…I know…another soccer picture
Two words…ridiculously busy. It’s that time of year…Half way done with the fall semester and the work load is just that, a “load”. Things get a little overwhelming at times, but overall this semester has been a blast!!! Soccer always makes time a constant struggle. Between class, practice, games, friends, family, and fun I find sleep decreasing more and more each day. It’s that time of year. SNOW!!!!! Today it snowed for the first time this year. Well, no white stuff on the ground yet, but it was falling from the sky!! I’m excited for snow, but not for the cold. haha I will enjoy snowboarding a few …
