Things I’m involved in at Houghton:
Swim Club, Journey's End, Residence Life (RA for the year 2010-2011), Climbing Club
Houghton in five words or less:
Superior academics meet unparalleled community
Myself in five words or less:
An open mind to God's leading
More about me:
I love to read, blog, do most anything outdoors, but specifically swim, hike in the White Mountains, and run on trails. I love spending time with my family, enjoy the season of fall the most, can't refuse a homemade chocolate chip cookie, and live in my Birkenstock sandals. I do my best to put others first, to think about the environment, and to be joyful always.
In the future, I hope I’ll be:
Post-Houghton, I hope to receive my masters degree and potentially a PhD. I would love to teach a whole class full of ESL students in an inner-city school in the United States and then abroad. In the summers, I hope to work at Camp Brookwoods and Deer Run in Alton, NH (A Christian camp on Lake Winnipesaukee that I attended for 8 summers as a camper and then spent 2 summers in the Leadership Development Program and 1 summer on staff). I would eventually love to get married and raise a family.

Welcome, Class of 2015!

Sunday, May 08, 2011, at 12:07 pm

To all of my readers who are coming to Houghton College in the fall-hooray! I am so excited to see you on campus so soon. The year has quickly come to a close, but the time between now and the first day of classes for the 2011-2012 school year will come even faster! So, WELCOME!

I suppose you might want the inside scoop of what to expect from a real, live student. Look no further than me, Lia! :)

Let me begin by saying that your freshman year is the year to figure things out. Don’t be shy about joining clubs and going to Campus Activities Board events or joining a new group for lunch every day or trying a new church every Sunday. It is the time for you …

Finals Week at Houghton-more fun than it sounds!

Friday, May 06, 2011, at 4:24 pm

Hello again! Welcome to finals week at Houghton College! While it is stressful, it is also a lot of fun because everyone is in the same boat together and we have no other real commitments other than studying or working on projects. It has been a beautiful week and students have enjoyed studying outside! Lambein Hall’s Leadership Council (LC) hosted a study break on Wednesday and I posted some pictures from that below. :)

Parents can pay the Houghton volunteer fire department to put together a “study buddy” box for their student as an encouragement for finals week~yum!

Soup Run & HoughtonPalooza!

Saturday, April 30, 2011, at 9:13 pm

Today, I ran a 5K (3.2 miles)! It was a GORGEOUS morning today-sunny with a slight crisp breeze. The 5K was Houghton College’s annual Soup Run and took place all around campus, with the final loop being to run around the quad and up the hill to the gym. I ran it with my friends Kim Meierjurgen (’13) and Emmie Baird (’13). It was so fun!

This afternoon was Houghtonpalooza (another annual Houghton College event). This one features an afternoon of hot dogs and hamburgers and band performances that takes place down on the lawn at the Townhouses and Flats. There were 18 …

Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at 8:44 pm

Believe it or not, spring is here AND it is nearly the end of the year! This is our final full week of classes before we go into final exams and then may-term classes. I’ll be taking a class called Teaching in Urban America during may-term where I will be observing in an inner-city public school for two weeks along with all of the other education majors~very excited!!

This time of year, I’m reminded of the verse in Psalm that says, “Be still and know that I am God” (Ps. 46:10). It is a good reminder for this time of year because students have many demands in front of them with …

We never thought it would happen, but Spring has finally come to Houghton, friends! I am so glad!

Sorry I haven’t blogged in a while…things get pretty busy here at Houghton College!

Everyone just returned to campus yesterday after our second break of this semester which included Easter. It was so nice to be home in New Hampshire with my family! Let me update you via pictures on things that have been going on around here…
